Minimally invasive BPH treatment

Rezūm Water-Vapor Therapy for an Enlarged Prostate

A simple, in-office steam treatment that relieves enlarged-prostate symptoms — often ending the need for daily medication.

Quick answer

Rezūm therapy treats an enlarged prostate (BPH) by injecting targeted water vapor (steam) into excess prostate tissue, which the body then reabsorbs. It is performed in-office, preserves sexual function for most men, and many patients stop their BPH medications afterward. Lief Urology is a Rezūm Center of Excellence.

What is Rezūm therapy?

Rezūm is a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — an enlarged prostate that squeezes the urethra and disrupts urination. Using the natural energy stored in water vapor, Dr. Lief delivers a few seconds of steam into the overgrown prostate tissue. Over the following weeks the body absorbs that treated tissue, the prostate shrinks, and urinary flow improves.

Why men choose Rezūm

  • Often medication-free. Many patients stop their daily BPH pills (such as tamsulosin and finasteride) after treatment.
  • Preserves sexual function for most men, unlike some traditional surgeries.
  • In-office and minimally invasive — no major incisions, quick recovery.
  • Lasting relief from frequency, urgency, weak stream, and waking at night to urinate.

What to expect

Rezūm is performed in our Coral Springs office under local anesthesia or light sedation and usually takes only a few minutes. You may use a temporary catheter for several days while the area heals. Symptom relief typically builds over a few weeks as the body reabsorbs the treated tissue. Dr. Lief — a Center of Excellence for Rezūm — will review whether Rezūm is the right fit during your consultation.
